Introduction to Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

The Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is numerical method for solving problems of engineering and mathematical physics.

Useful for problems with complicated geometries, loadings, and material properties where analytical solutions can not be obtained.

                                                                  The Purpose of FEA

1.Design is based on the calculation results of the idealized structure & a large safety factor (1.5-3) given by experience.

2.Stress  analysis  for  trusses,  beams,  and  other  simple structures are carried out based on dramatic simplification and idealization:

mass concentrated at the center of gravity
beam simplified as a line segment (same cross-section)

3.Design geometry is a lot more complex; and the accuracy requirement is a lot higher.  We need

–    To  understand  the  physical  behaviors  of  a  complex object (strength, heat transfer capability, fluid flow, etc.)
–     To predict the performance and behavior of the design; to      calculate  the  safety  margin;  and  to  identify  the weakness of the design accurately; and
To identify the optimal design with confidence

Principle of FEA

The finite element method (FEM ) ,or finite element analysis (FEA) , is a computational technique used to obtain approximate solution of boundary value problems in engineering .

Boundary value problems are also called field problems .the field is the domain of interest and most often represents a physicals structures

the field variables are the dependent variables of interest governed by the differential equation

the boundary conditions are the specified values of the filed variables ( or related variables such as derivatives ) on the boundaries of the field

Design and Development of Automated Coconut DE husking  Machine

Dhusking is the process of removing the outer covering called husk from the coconuts. The dhusking is necessary for matured coconut towards further utilization. Due to the complication in size the studies are still in initial stage. The commercially available machines like Motorizeand hydraulic coconut dhusking machines costs more, this has became major limiting factor in our country.

The main source used here is hydraulic power. The arm like structure used for opening the husk, the coconut iplaced on holding mechanism in vertical direction such that eye facing top. Hydraulic powered mechanisms are used for lifting and holding. The upper gripper used for de husking coconut husk

In the Sri Lanka  people are looking for a job that has to be done in easier way. This machine reduces the human effort and also saves time( cycle time) to great extent. It is possible for us to obtain the more output. In many industries labours are used for processing of coconuts, it is both costly and time consuming.

Machine spec
1.powered by hydraulic 2.cycle time - 12s to 15s 3.semi automated 4.capacity - 240 to 300 per hour 5.portable 7.weight : 220 kg 8.materials : SS304L 9.2 hp

Tilting Garage Gate design || Animation||

Tilting Gate Design

Tilt gates are flat panels that tilt as they’re lifted upward to rest flat against the ceiling.  If brought in during the design phase, I can design the perfect tilt gates to fit in to your parking garage or i can provide CAD drawings for your existing CAD drawings and architectural plans and insert parking garage gates while ensuring recommend clearance and life safety requirements.  Retrofitting to an existing garage or fitting garage access gates into a parking garage that is currently being built is also an option, when the concept is build up, proper distances are considered of the architectural design.

Whether you need parking garage gates, tilt gate CAD drawings, or if you want an engineering instructions to step in and design the garage’s access control system for you, i have experienced personnel to help you plan it out properly.

If you are interesting to purchase CAD design or need my help .please contact me

How To Make A Belt Grinder (Belt Sander )|| Design Review || 2 x 72

Design And Fabrication Of Abrasive Belt Grinder Mechanical Project

The Machine I designed and fabricated is used for grinding any shape of object like Circular, Rectangular, and Polygon.  In our project the work abrasive belt is used to grinding the material. The abrasive belt is rotated by the single phase induction motor. Hence our project namely abrasive belt grinder is a Special type of Machine.  According to the type of material to be grind, the grinding tool can be changed.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

The abrasive belt is used to grind the material. This abrasive belt is rotated by the single phase induction motor. In our project consist of end bearings with bearing cap, roller wheel, shaft, single phase induction motor and abrasive belt. This whole arrangement is fixed on the frame structure where the component rests.

The roller wheel is mounted on the two end bearings with bearing cap by suitable arrangement. There are two roller wheel is used in our project to rotate the abrasive belt. One side of the roller wheel shaft, one v-pulley is coupled by the suitable arrangement. The single phase induction motor with V-pulley arrangement is used to rotate the abrasive belt through the belt drive mechanism.

ADVANTAGES

1. The machine is compact and rigid in size.
2. Maintenance is less.
3. It can be used on any place of small grinding application
4. By varying the pulley diameter the speed of the abrasive belt to be changed.

DISADVANTAGES

1. The abrasive belt should be changeable one for different material. This process takes more time.

APPLICATIONS

1. Grinding outside the job in any size of body can be done.
2. As the feed is given automatic, 0.8 micron finish may be achieved.
3. By changing the grades of abrasive belt grinding it can be used to grind the carbon steel, Alloy steel and stainless steel etc..

Ridge Plastering Machine

Ridge plastering work, the only manual work that is still practised in the paddy fields, will soon become a thing of the past, with the introduction of the Ridge plastering machine.Farm mechanisation has become inevitable because the mechanisation in rice cultivation is saving energy to some extent and enhancing  profitability in many respects.

The machine is introduced in sri lanka by Pubudu Kapuge (INVENTOR) . It has successfully completed its trial run using prototype design

The ridge plastering is a tractor attached implement that will build new bunds, field ridges and also strengthen the existing bunds, field ridges at high speed while making them stronger and aesthetically much better. It is suitable for both dry and wet conditions. Bund/ Ridge forming is a continuous and very important process in the preparation of the rice field before cultivation. The traditional manual bund, ridge forming work is characterized by low efficiency, low strength, high cost and directly affects the profitability of rice farming.

Manually, an average skilled person can trim and plaster 90-120m of bund per day.  The cost at present is `3000Lkr per day in sri lanka. The Ridge plastering machine has an output of 900-1,000m/hr, which means trimming and plastering can be done withing few hours. The new machine, initially manufactured in Japan and Taiwan, is operated using PTO power of a 40-70hp tractor upon which it is mounted.but the problem is thease machine are not suitable for sri lankan cultivation due to variances of farming methodologies in the paddy field

This attachment weighs is about 390kg with overall dimensions of 1,600mm length, 1,7000mm width and 1,200mm height. The introductory price of the machine will be 7-8lakh.

Machine Operation

1.The wet soil(Mud) volume to be carried to the disc by means of rotary screw according to the soil condition and the qty.

2.Disc presses the filed by three directions, the oblique, the shoulder and the upper. Triple direction press makes the firm ridges which won’t be collapsed easily. The tighter ridges are available by the power of pushing and beating from the top and the side of the disc.

3.The roller diameter which contacts to the ridge surface is larger, so the velocity at the roller outside becomes faster, so the stronger power will be loaded on the ridges, and makes the surface firmer ridges.

BUILDING AN ENCLOSURE FOR YOUR PROJECTS #SHEET_METAL

Electrical Enclosures

Utility products include indoor and outdoor electrical enclosures which house electrical connections. Electrical enclosures are essential to keep people and animals away from electrical connections. Outdoor Electrical enclosures are constructed to meet the following standards

The Different Types of Electrical Enclosure

Electrical enclosures are available in different types and sizes to accommodate different applications of use. Examples of the types of enclosures include the following:
  • Wall mounted outdoor electrical enclosures.
  • Pad mounted external enclosures.
  • Outdoor electrical utility enclosures.
  • Outdoor marshalling boxes

Outdoor electrical enclosures come in different shapes and sizes, making them suitable for use in different industries.

Applications and uses of outdoor electrical enclosures

From power distribution to telecommunications, you will find the need for outdoor electrical enclosures. When you walk down the street in any city or town, you will come across different cabinets and enclosures housing different types of electrical connections. Other common uses include the following:
  • Utilities applications.
  • Control and instrumentation uses.
  • Telecommunications and broadband cabinets.
  • Electrical substations.
  • Wind Farms and solar farms.
  • Trackside cabinets for transport applications.
Next we discuss some of the fabrication processes and construction materials used to make outdoor electrical cabinets.

Metal fabrication processes for electrical enclosures

A variety of materials are used in the fabrication of outdoor electrical and utility products. These include polycarbonate, glass reinforced polythene, stainless steel and mild steel. Although lightweight materials, polycarbonate and glass reinforced polythene have high tensile strength. They are usually moulded unlike metallic enclosure which require metal fabrication and welding processes.
FLAT PATTERN OF THE ENCLOSURE
Laser cutting, bending and seam welding processes are utilized to create metal outdoor electrical enclosures. These fabrication processes contribute to the weatherproof properties demanded of cabinets for outdoor use. Seam welding makes the enclosures waterproof while powder coating and galvanizing protect the enclosures from rust. Hinged doors, cut outs and ventilation louvres come as optional extras for the different types of utility products.
